We need an education diplomacy and not a war diplomacy. From the broad, to the narrow, weapons cause violence. We need to limit the amount of weapons we produce, distribute, and profit from. The National Rifle Association is a powerful organization that is on the wrong side of the issue and we must pay attention to the interests and culture it represents.
We should limit the sale of bullets and ammunition. Increase taxes on weapons manufacturers. We also need stronger background checks, specifically to take guns away from domestic violence perpetrators and those with severe mental health issues that can lead to violence. We should limit the movement of guns across borders, not just inter-United States, but also the export of weapons from the United States of America to other parts of the world.
Instead of guns, we should make mental healthcare more accessible, affordable, and acceptable in our culture.
