Reliable and robust public transport will help our economy and public health. It is important that this transport is affordable to all income levels.
California needs much more investment in public transit powered by renewable energy. Ankur supports electrification of buses, more trains, and bike lanes that makes our communities safer and more livable. It is crucial to do everything we can to dismantle and replace single-occupancy car culture with something more sustainable. Ankur earned a Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning from Cal State University Northridge and served on the CSUN Sustainability Department’s Transportation Working Group (TWG).
We can and should leverage and expand programs like “Safe Routes to School” to help us build out bicycle and skateboard lane networks around and between neighborhood schools to give kids and parents an alternative to driving to school. Twice a day, around our schools, we have congestion, traffic, and unsafe pedestrian behavior driven by a flawed and inefficient transportation system. We can do better and need to invest in local transportation solutions.
We need to update the California Vehicle Code, CEQA, The CalTrans manuals of style and all other state-level guidelines to make it easier to improve our infrastructure from bike lanes to permeable paving.
Overall, our transportation systems need to be modernized and it is from the State Level that technology, the public sector, and private companies can be leveraged towards better solutions for all Californians.
